Integrated Steel Plant
Setting up integrated steel plant for the manufacturing of special steel meant exclusively for automobile sector. As iron ore is the basic raw material for the unit, the company has approached Govt. of Karnataka for the allocation of an iron ore mine.
GoK has indicated that the mine would be allotted subject to setting up the plant in Karnataka. GoK has allotted 300 acres of land in Raichur. GoK has considered the application & the mines allotment orders are expected at any moments based on progress of project work at Raichur site.

SPECIAL STEEL MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Iron ore would be reduced to sponge iron by the way of direct reduction in 4 kilns of size 100 tpd using coal .the sponge iron plus heavy metal scarp grades plus some additives like Ferro manganese etc would be charge into EAF (electric arc furnace) of 30 tones capacity. The hot metal from EAF is transferred to ladle refining furnace (LDF) and thereafter cast into billets in 3 strands billet caster. The Billet is rolled in rolling mill for special steel long products of required size specification. The flue gases from plant are used for power generation through WHRB'S 8 mw and the rest using coal as fuel of around 17 mw. Hence, making this plant self-sufficient.

Targeting Automobile Industry
The automobile industry is one of the largest in India and plays a significant role in the economic growth of the nation.
India is the world's second largest manufacturer of two wheelers, Fifth largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles and the largest manufacturer of tractors. In this highly potential industry, special steel is increasingly playing a significant role.
By developing suitable special steels like spring steel, carbon steel, Alloy steel and wire rod steel products, Steel usage can be improved in the auto component of the manufacturing sector.
During the year 2004 - 05, the automobile industry registered a growth rate of 15.06% and the industry is poised for a substantial growth in the future.
Marketing Activities
- Raichur plant will be backed-up by organizational team structure in all levels of operations.
- The products of Surana Industries will be marketed in a niche market for end use in production of automobile industry.
- The large automotive industry base in south India with Chennai leading the scene would enhance the derived demand for long products.
- The size of the market targeted by Surana would be maximum to an extent of 5% to 10% of the total incremental market demand.
- The proposed project envisages manufacturing of special steel, which is of great demand in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
- Surana Industries already has a well-established marketing Network in South India and other parts of India.
Surana believes that our historical success and future prospects are directly related to a combination of strengths in setting up the integrated steel complex at raichur in Karnataka.
Surana would not face undue problems in marketing its products with product mix set up design infrastructure.
